Nordic Nerds

A Reading Group for Learning, Networking, and Mentorship

What is Nordic Nerds?
Nordic Nerds is an interdisciplinary reading group that fosters mentorship, academic discussion, and professional networking in the fields of culture, technology, and digital rights. Whether you’re a PhD student, postdoc, faculty member, or industry expert, this group provides a supportive space to refine ideas, build connections, and engage in meaningful conversations.

The first iteration of the group began in 2023. It was created in response to the lack of structured mentorship in academia, offering a collaborative space where scholars can ask questions, exchange insights, and develop their research.

Why Join Nordic Nerds?
🔹 Mentorship & Career Guidance – Gain insights from experienced scholars and industry professionals.
🔹 Interdisciplinary Discussion – Engage with experts in AI, ethics, and digital rights.
🔹 Networking Opportunities – Build relationships with researchers and professionals.
🔹 Research & Presentation Feedback – Improve your work in a constructive environment.

How It Works
✔️ Biweekly virtual meetings
✔️ Reading assignments based on group interests
✔️ Opportunities to present and receive feedback
✔️ A collaborative, supportive mentorship environment

This group is not a replacement for graduate supervision, but rather a safe space where scholars can openly discuss academic, professional, and networking challenges in an informal yet structured setting.

Meetings are scheduled in Central European Time (CET) to accommodate the majority of participants. While the group is primarily geared toward individuals based in Europe due to time zone logistics, those outside of Europe are welcome to apply if they can attend at the scheduled times.

Who Can Join?
Nordic Nerds is open to PhD students, postdocs, faculty members, and industry professionals interested in culture, technology, and digital rights. The group is intentionally small to ensure meaningful engagement and strong mentorship connections.
